What is a Sound Bath?
A Sound Bath is a concert of sacred sounds. I use the term "Sound Bath" because you are "bathed" in the vibrations of all the instruments used. I typically play a combination of Paiste Planetary Gongs and Crystal Singing Bowls. When played in a room with good resonance you can feel the vibration run from the instruments through the floor and into your entire body. It is an amazing experience and you really do feel like you have been bathed in sound! During a typical Sound Bath you will lie on the floor - on a yoga mat or blanket - and just take in the vibration, although I also will hold events in which I combine a sound bath with movement such as dance, hooping or yoga. About the Instruments
The Sacred Gong
Gongs are among the oldest musical instruments of Southeast Asia, presumed by historians to be made and used before the second millennium B.C. Gong making originated in Asia and was known to be an ancient family secret. It was believed the making of a successful gong required the help of higher powers. The gong is truly a magical instrument that has been used for centuries for healing, ceremony, communication, music, status symbols and to accompany life's major events. Gongs are no longer limited to Asia - the gongs I use, Paiste Planet Gongs, are made in Germany.
The sound of the gong can take you to another place. It is a highly effective tool for meditation and shifting consciousness. The sound of the gong is the sound of the universe and by listening to it you are tuning in to the sounds of the cosmos. Many people report receiving great insights and visions or hearing comforting voices while listening to the gongs. Some people are moved to tears by the mysterious tones as they release stuck energy allowing joy and happiness to flow freely.
I am currently working with three Paiste planetary gongs - Earth, Jupiter, and Mercury. Earth is a wonderful gong for opening the heart, and grounding. The sound is unfathomable and dark, with swelling highs. Earth brings up deep emotions and can sound different every time. Mercury's deep inviting sound opens the throat Chakra and works on communication and activates our mind. It aids in speaking your truth and understanding. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and opening. It assists in abundance, creativity, success and fearlessness.
Crystal Singing Bowls
Crystal singing bowls are composed entirely of quartz crystals. Quartz has the ability to transform, store, and amplify energy and is used in a variety of common items today including watches and computers. The human body is crystalline in nature and the sound of the bowls has a powerful effect on all of our bodily systems.
Each bowl is tuned to a specific musical note or Chakra (energy center) and are excellent for meditation and clearing and balancing the body's energetic systems. When combined with the gongs the resulting sound is out of this world!
